Shaving with things I gotten in the Solidarity Advent Calendar. The Proraso preshave cream reminds me of the Prep cream, which isn’t bad. The Mühle aftershave balm felt pretty nice too. Not impressed by the Mühle shaving cream though; no slip, no cushion, and hard to rinse of my vintage Schick.

Schick E2 from 1941, first impressions

Thanks to a fellow shaver from the ‘Nook, I recently received a Schick E2 dated 1941. That’s right; the razor is eighty years old.

The razor looks really nice and is in excellent condition, and I’m looking forward to contrasting and comparing it to my Lady Eversharp and G4.

The box is also in very good shape, with nice and sharp text. The text on the underside is interesting; what company today gives a twenty year, no question asked warranty?

Guess who’s back… my Psion Series 5 is back!

After several years of not working – the screen being dead – my beloved Psion Series 5 Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) is alive again. It turns out there is still a marked for repairing these neat PDAs almost a quarter century after they were first introduced. So now that it is alive again, let us have a closer look at this vintage tech. This will be a very different review to what I usually do.

A quite Normal razor review

A little while ago I bought a Normal razor – that is, I bought a razor from the low cost store Normal in Norway. I used it all of last week, along with the unmarked blades it came with. And I must say it performed well for a razor costing as little as it does.So lets break things down, shall we?

Kickstarter – or “Adding shit to razors”

A while ago I learned that yet another safety razor is heading towards crowdfunding. Kickstarter is full of the things. Most are never fully funded, quite a few is existing manufacturers raising cash and awareness on new razors, some are outright scams, and some are… well, like this one. Let us rip it apart, shall we? See what bits makes sense in the context of shaving, and what bits that don’t.

Pereira charcoal soap in stick form

Pereira charcoal soap is a soap I reviewed back in May ’18, and that I found to be a rather nice soap. And now it will be available in the form of a shave stick as well. The soap is the same as in the well known charcoal soap, and very similar to the blend found in Baron’s Choice (although the later does not have activated charcoal added).

I received one of the new shave sticks before they went on sale, and I must admit to enjoying it a lot.

Razors.click – a website and a resource

As some of you might have noticed, I like patents for old razors and related accoutrements. Like enough to have many, many posts about them. Enough to self publish a book about them. And more than enough to appreciate the work behind a site like razors.click.

Razors.click is a site mostly about razor patents. It have some added bonuses like a handful of inventor biographies, a few articles on razor related subjects, and short how-to’s on how to make your own wedge blade and taking 360° images. The main focus is on patents though, and where I will show of a patent and either snark on some of the odd details or ramble about the things I like, razors.click lays out the patent in a clear, readable format with interactive drawings.

Razors.click is a good resource for anyone who likes old razors and engineering. Personally I would enjoy seeing more shaving related accoutrements – brushes and bowls – but it is a great resource both for research and relaxation. Go check it out.

Williams Mug Soap – a review and some opinions

Williams Mug Soap is in many ways like the Arko shave stick… I’ll touch upon several of the ways during this review, but lets start with the big one: If you try it, you can not not have an opinion on it. And my opinion on Williams Mug Soap seems to run counter to what many fellow shavers think.
