I was going to point out that it was another fine Friday shave, but honestly… after shifting to traditional wetshaving almost 13 years ago, virtually every shave have been a fine shave. Traditional wetshaving not only give me my morning moment of Zen, but also means no shave bump, almost never any ingrown hairs, and fewer cuts and nicks.

A wonderful Wednesday shave with my Schick from down under. It is – or at least feels – a bit more aggressive than the Type B, but not by much.

Comparison between a Schick Type A and Type B

As mentioned last week, I just received a Type A from down under. And I already have a Type B (two, actually). And as I pointed out when I posted pictures of the Type A, the square hole didn’t align neatly with the head as it does in the Type B.

Which means, logically, that there has to be a difference in the head geometry between the two models. In the Type B, the blade has to be parallel with the sideway of the razor. In the Type A, it ought to be inclined somewhat. And that should be possible to see in a side-by-side comparison.

Taking a new-to-me razor for a spin is always exciting. The Type A should be fairly similar to the Type B, but the head geometry is subtly different. More on that tomorrow.

Another fine Friday shave, showing that you don’t have to spend a fortune to turn your shave to a moment of Zen.

Schick Type A

A little while ago, I found my Holy Grail Razor. Or more specifically, I found two. But to me the Grail wasn’t one razor (or two), but a type of razor. My Hole Grail Razor was the Schick Magazine Repeating Razor. And as discerning shavers know, there are three recognised types of the Schick Magazine Repeating Razor; the Type A, the Type B, and the Type C. Both of the ones I got so far are Type Bs. But today, thanks to a fellow shaver from the antipodes, my collection contains a Schick Type A as well.

A smooth and relaxing midweek shave. Slants are sometimes seen as aggressive – and therefore scary – but with the right blade and the right touch I find my slants to be a joy to use.
