Shave of the day 23rd January

Pre-shave: Dr Bronner’s Liquid Peppermint Soap
Lather: Dalen d’Men Energic cream and GzD shave stick
Brush: Vie-Long 14033 mixed horse-badger
Razors: Merkur 25C and Gillette ’58 TV Special, both with a “Flying Eagle” blade
Post-shave: Cool water rinse, alum, and Krampert’s Finest Prototype Menthol

The Flying Eagles is still giving me a DFS – today’s lather was dense without being overly thirsty.

Wishlist for 2013

We’re getting up on a new year, and it’s time to take stock of the gear in my den to see what ‘holes’ that ‘needs’ filling.

I didn’t find a lot of gaps, really.

I got my eye on one or two new brushes; a Omega 343167 synthetic and a Vie-Long 14033M unbleached horse.I would love to get my hands on an affordable and agreeable open comb twist to open razor – not to mention an affordable and agreeable open comb slant. Apart from that… nothing, with the exception of soaps and creams.

At least until my ADs starts playing up again…

Shave of the day 12th November

Pre-shave: Dr Bronner’s liquid Tea Tree Oil
Lather: Prairie Creations KISS Tea Tree Cream
Brush: Vie-Long 14033 mixed horse-badger brush
Razors: Unknown (possible Merkur) German Bakelite Slant with a fresh Wilkinson Sword
Post-shave: Cold water rinse, alum and Krampert’s Finest Bay Rum

Back in my own den, and trying the NOS German bakelite slant for the first time. It’s a featherweight sledgehammer – mild and efficient. Gave a DFS too…

Shave of the day 14th September

Pre-shave: Dr Bronners Magic Soap, liquid Peppermint
Lather: Mike’s Pepperming & Rosemary soap
Brush: Vie-Long 14033 horse-badger
Razors: Merkur 39C slant and Parker 22R TTO, both with Laser Super Platinum (2)
Post-shave: Cold water rinse, alum block and Krampert’s Finest Bay Rum

Second shave with these blades –  and last. They lost their edge quicker than most other blades, but still gave me close to a DFS today.

Shave of the day 3rd September

Pre-shave: Pure glycerine soap
Lather: Lea shavestick
Brush: Vie-Long 14033
Razors: Cated TP-01 with a fresh Wilkinson Sword
Post-shave: Cold water rinse, alum block and Body Shop “Maca Root Energic Face Protector”

Razor, shave stick and pocket sized alum from Shave A Buck – the balm was a free sample  from Body Shop.
Overall a fine shave –  I can see why people have been praising the Cadet OC head sky high.

Brush: Vie-Long 14033 mixed horse-badger
Razors: Merkur 25C with a “Treet Platinum Super Stainless”, Merkur 958CL with a “Lord Platinum”

Comparing two razors which shares the head but have very different handles – and a DFS with a menthol blast on a gray Monday morning.

Shave of the day 8th August

Pre-shave: Pure glycerine soap
Lather: Mike’s Barbershop
Brush: Vie-long 14033
Razors: Merkur 25C with a “Treet Platinum Super Stainless” blade, and 1958 Gillette TV Special with a “Astra Superior Platinum” blade

Yet another DFS. The Gillette TV Special is shaping up to be a mighty fine shaver.

Shave of the day 1st August

Pre-shave: Dr Bronners Magic Soap, Liquid Orange
Lather: Mike’s Orange, Cedarwood and Black Pepper Soap
Brush:Vie-Long mixed horse/badger #14033
Razors: Merkur 39C slant and Parker 22R, both with “Wilkinson Sword” blades

Yet another DFS – most of the cartridge generation don’t know what they are missing out on.

Shave of the day 20th July

Pre-shave: Dr Bronner’s Magic Soap, Orange
Lather: Mama Bear’s Awakening (peppermint, tea tree and menthol)
Brush: Vie-Long 14033 mixed horse-badger brush
Razors: 25C with a “Treet Platinum” blade and Franken-nought-four with a “Lord Platinum” blade
Post-shave: Cold water rinse, Alum block and Krampert’s Finest Experimental Menthol

Tried out a soap that arrived yesterday – wonderfully cooling and refreshing in the morning, keeping my face cool the whole shave.
Also used two razors with identical heads today, trying to judge if I like long or short handles the most – jury is still out.
Wrapping up with a cold rinse and Krampert’s Finest Menthol – a cool end to a DFS.

Shave of the day 13th July

Pre-shave: Pure glycerine soap
Lather: Arko Cool Mint shaving cream
Brush: Vie-Long 14033 mixed horse-badger brush
Razors: Merkur 25C open comb with a “Treet Platinum” blade, Racer Safety Razor with a “Racer Super Stainless” blade
Post-shave: Cold water rinse, alum block and Proraso Liquid Cream A/S

If you had told me three years ago that a DFS would be the norm and nothing to write about, I wouldn’t have believed you. But today I got a DFS as I usually do, and there isn’t much to say about it.
