Still playing with plans for 3D printed razors

I am slowly – very slowly – getting to grips with the skill of using OpenSCAD to describe things. So far I’ve managed to come up with a ‘parametric’ file, where I can alter a variable or two to create different versions of the same object. And while the two extremes might be way too mild or way to harsh to shave with, the one in the middle might work reasonable well…

Or rather, learning the skills to describe an object in OpenSCAD.

If I can manage to describe an item – such as this simple baseplate for a DE razor – as a collection of cylinders, boxes and arches, it can in theory be made on a 3D printer or CNC machine.

More on angles

It’s easier to understand with pictures: the two most important things when it comes to how aggressive a razor feels is the blade gap and the blade angle – the larger they are, the more aggressive the razor feels in my opinion.

Looking back

This attempt at documenting my wetshaving journey have been up less than a year – first post went up early in April – but I come a long way since then. Not only have the amount of things in my shave den exploded, but so has the number of hits on this blog – off to a slow start with less than 40 hits the first month, quickly growing to about five hundred a month before a new spike in December. All told not far from 4000 hits so far, which is not bad for a blog that is 3/5ths about what lather and razor I used at any given day…
It’s been fun so far – and I’ll keep writing this blog as long as I enjoy shaving and I has the time to do so. Have a Happy and Well Shaven New Year!

Feeding my ADs

Acquisition Disorders is something many traditional wetshavers seems to gain as part of their hobby – probably because there is just so many brushes, razors and soaps out there to try.

My main AD seems to be centred on soaps and creams, which admittedly is cheaper than razors and brushes.. still, I surprise myself at times. Yesterday I went ahead and ordered a replacement Turkish No6 – having PIFed my original one away – and a order for a 2.45$ brush ended up at just over 20$;
– Wilkinson Sword Classic razor w/ extra blades
– A cheap Plastic Safety razor; if nothing else it’ll be good for laughts
– Dalan d’Men shaving cream
– Derby shaving cream
– Tweex shaving stick
and
– Tuskish No6 shaving brush.

Happy 17th May!

It is the Norwegian Constitution Day today – and while I realise far from everyone celebrates it, I want to wish everyone a very happy, very nice 17th!

I’m off to eat hot dogs and ice cream, and watch the children parade down town in my little town. Just a shame the weather is unstable, or I would have worn my bunad… well, there is always next year!
