A little while ago I posted a quick thing about a Schick Auto-Band Razor advertisement. In that post I mentioned that the Gillette Techmatic have been called… well… let’s just say that some online sources are less than impressed. And within hours of me putting out a twitter post about it, a fellow Norwegian wetshaver, twitterer, and blogger proved for me one of the core tenants of traditional wetshaving: Your Mileage Will Vary. Noticed an infected spot on my neck. Rather than shave everything but that spot, I choose to shave nothing today.

Everyone should have a work shave kit in their locker at work. Sometimes one has to come in early, due to some emergency. Sometimes I don’t get to home, due to some emergency. And sometimes I just sleep in and must shave after getting to work. Therefore I’ve kept a small shave kit in my locker for years.

Schick Auto-Band Razor

The Schick Auto-Band Razor was manufactured from the mid sixties to the late seventies. At least, that is what online sources tells me. This makes it a contemporary to another band razors – one that has been called the worst razor of all time. I have no idea if the Schick Auto-Band razor was any better, but at least Schick put the whole mechanism in the replaceable head and not part inside, part outside.
