Ancient wisdom

First-class tools are necessary at the very outset. No matter how skillfully one may handle inferior tools, they will invariably produce poor results.
Probably as many failures have resulted from the use of poor razors, strops, or soap as from the lack of knowledge how to use them. In order that the best possible results may be attained, good tools and skill in using them should go hand in hand.

Maybe not that ancient; it’s the opening lines of Shaving Made Easy, a book originally published in 1904 and now available for free at Project Gutenberg. It’s linked from my sidebar, since I consider it a valuable resource for wetshavers new and old.

Almost here; TSN LE soap of 2016

Remember this? According to Phil – the man behind my favourite shave forum – it’s coming soon!

Pseudofolliculitis barbae

Pseudofolliculitis barbae (/ˈsjuːdoʊfəˈlɪkjʊˈlaɪtᵻs ˈbɑːrbiː/; PFB), also known as barber’s itch, folliculitis barbae traumatica, razor bumps, scarring pseudofolliculitis of the beard, and shave bumps, is a medical term for persistent irritation caused by shaving. Pseudofolliculitis barbae was first described in 1956.

What am I even looking at?

Googling for “worst shave” yields some… definitively odd results.

A potentially naughty shave

What is wetshaving all about?

A discussion on my favorite shave forum took a turn for the…well, not nasty, but definitely less pretty than it things usually are. And as a comment to that, I want to say here what I said there:

It should be about getting a good shave and enjoying the process; not about the tools used.

An odd, old Gillette case

Spotted on a Norwegian auction site, but not soon enough to get it. Never seen anything like this before and I have no idea if it was a official product, or if someone made it as a presentation case for a present.

It does have the look of something handmade – the uneven lettering in particular. Possible something made by a son as a gift for his father?

I like it. I just regret not spotting it before it was sold.. it sold for less than a modern DE.

Straight razor honing machine

One use for canned goo

Me and canned goo simply don’t get along well… but after watching this I’m almost tempted to go out and buy a few cans of the vile stuff.

Medical razors

I’m going to assume by “medical razor”, people usually means “razors for use in hospitals”, presumable while prepping for surgery.

Part of me badly wants to get some of these to see how they shave.. the downside is that I would have to order from China, in bulk.
