Adding soap to cream

The other day I was using some Arko Cool Mint shave cream, which makes a pretty decent lather but is – in my opinion – somewhat lacking in the mentholated kick department. Acting on an impulse I added a couple drops of Dr Bronners liquid peppermint soap as I was building my lather…

The result was a thicker lather than usual, with a distinct and pleasant menthol-peppermint kick to it – a definite improvement both on the face-feel and the cushioning. I suspect I’ll do it again the next time I use the Arko cream, and possible to some of my other creams too.

New slant is being released soon

From time to time a new razor hits the market – but very few of them are slants… and I like slants.

I’m rather excited about the promised RazoRock Slant, but I probably wont be the first to buy – I like seeing what others think before I hand over my cash.

Lovely new-to-me razors

A package have arrived, but I’m not at home to properly enjoy right now… two good looking SE razors I’m really looking forward to giving a go – in my mailbox thanks to a generous PIF from a fellow shaver. The silver one is a GEM Micromatic Clog Pruf, the brass beauty is a GEM 1912.

Thank you Joe! I’m looking forward to loading these guys up with some single edge blades and see how my technique holds up.

Very first impression of Cadet Model 11 TTO OC

This week I’m using my new Cadet Model 11 Twist To Open Open Comb razor. After the first shave – using a Lord Platinum blade – this is my key take-aways:
– not aggressive
– well balanced
– a keeper

New razor is here!

My new Cadet Model 11 – Open Comb, Twist To Open – has arrived! Shiny, hefty and looking better than the pictures, I’m looking forward to giving it a test drive next week.

As you can see from the photos, Joe at Shave A Buck also sent me a sleeve of blades – blades that are previously unknown to me. Looking forward to taking those for a spin too.

Very first impressions of Vie Long 13051M pure horse brush

My impressions after the very first use:
– Lovely coloured handle, a wee bit on the small side but not enough to bother me.
– Scritchy! This is definitely not your silky smooth badger, just as I had hoped.
– A vague smell of ‘animal’ – not to dissimilar from the scent I catch a whiff of when our cat decides to nest on my chest..

Conclusions so far:
– Money well spent.
– A face latherers brush.
– Will likely smell of soap by the end of the week.

Quick reveiw – Zaza Super / Supreme Stainless Steel

Quite a while ago I bought a couple of sampler packs of blades from my favourite Turkish webshop, and while I tried most of them early I sort of forgot about the rest until recently. Towards the bottom of the bag was a pair of Zaza – blades I could only find meagre information about online.

Bottom line? Not the smoothest in the world, not the sharpest either – but a very nice blend of smoothness, sharpness and longevity. A solid, if uninspired, contender for a fall-back blade… and one that seems like it might be hard to get more of. So far I only seen them for sale in my favourite Turkish webshop, and they are sold out…

New gear on it’s way!

It’s been a while since I bought shaving gear, for various reasons. Today though I finally got of my bum and ordered the pure horse hair brush I been wanting from Gifts & Care… and then I noticed that Shave A Buck had gotten some new Cadet razors in stock – ones that were both TTO and OC. Just had to put in an order for one of those too.
