Looking back, looking forward

Another year older, but still feeling thirteen most of the time…

This attempt at documenting my wetshaving journey have been up for a little more than a year and a half – first post went up early in April 2012 – but along the way the amount of things in my shave den exploded as well as a significant improvement in my technique. Got about ten thousand hits this year, which is not bad for a weblog that is 3/5ths about what lather and razor I used at any given day…

I’ll keep writing this blog as long as I enjoy shaving and I has the time to do so. Have a Happy and Well Shaven New Year!

God jul!

In Norway, as in most of non-Anglo-Saxon Europe, Yule is celebrated on the 24th. The midwinter celebrations are a direct continuation of the old midwinterblót, given a thin christian veneer when Norway was christianised a millennia ago – but our habit of throwing a party when the sun turns goes back way beyond that.

So to everyone out there who happen to read this, I wish a God Jul and a Godt Nytt År.
Or as they would say a millennia ago;
*) To a good harvest / good year and peace / friendship

No razor? No problem?

At least not for this Russian guy… apparently, his grandfather told him that “Razors are an expensive, unnecessary luxury” and that during the Great Patriotic War the soldiers would shave with anything – so logically he decided to learn how to do the same.

I’m  not sure about y’all, but I stick to a nice DE for now – and proper lather too, instead of the canned goo I spy on this fellows table.

Happy Halloween

Skeleton-man needs no shave…

No real post today

I don’t often throw in the towel and say ‘no post today’, but in between work and other obligations I haven’t had the time… Had hoped that either my new brush or my new razor would have arrived so I could show them off, but both are caught in postal limbo it seems.

No post today

To busy with Real Life – sorry.

How long does a cart last?

I guess that either the last cart is wicked sharp… or the guy who made this simply forgets to buy new blades.

Happy 17th of May!

Today the Norwegian Constitution is 199 years old – and according to some ways of looking at it so is Norway as a country… other ways of counting puts Norway at 1089 years (in 1905 the parliament told the Swedish-Norwegian king that they figured he had failed to fulfil his duties, so bye!), or at 1141 years (Battle of Hafrsfjord, which may or may not have taken place in or around 872).
At any rate, Happy 17th!

Bizarro Razor

After I switched to using a single blade – even if it has two edges – I’ve been somewhat puzzled as to why you would need 2, 3 or 8 blades. Recently I found this drawing which offer an explanation:

One year and counting

I just realised I made my first post on this blog a little over a year ago. My, does the time pass quickly…

Close to 290 posts, almost 7000 hits… and I’m enjoying shaving more now than I did when I started with traditional wetshaving.
