Welcomed by Women Everywhere

Back around 1915, society started objecting to the fact that ladies had objectionable hair. This then created a marked for ladies’ razors, a marked Gillette naturally was happy to fill with their Milady Décolleté Gillette.

The Décolleté – the name referring to a low neckline on a dress or top – was more or less identical to a regular Old Type razor. The biggest difference was the shape of the handle, with a long cone between the knurling and the bottom plate, and the somewhat fancier box it came in.

As for the ad copy? Definitely a product of its time;

…new, unique, very much up to date.

…solves an embarrassing personal problem.

…a feature of good dressing and good grooming is to keep the underarm white and smooth.

For Gillette, the trend of women shaving meant the market just doubled. And by offering a ladies’ razor that was – for all intents and purposes – the same as the one they offered men, they wouldn’t have to tool up to make a new razor or blade.
